Ending of the 15th Thessaloniki International LGBTQ Film - TopicsExpress

Ending of the 15th Thessaloniki International LGBTQ Film Festival. Preparing the 16th. The 15th Thessaloniki International LGBTQ Film Festival was successfully completed thanks to the interest of the audience, the work of the volunteers [Good As You(th), Lesbian Group of Thessaloniki, Transgender’s Support, individuals], the kind offer of film directors, the support of foreign institutions, the love of nonprofit organizations, the help of companies and the personnel of Thessaloniki Cinema Museum-Cinemateque. We want to thank them all and individually for their support and contribution. Special thanks to the Thessaloniki Film Festival the other co-organizer of the event. It was ten days with emotional experiences, contact and communication, stimulation for introspective reflections and wonderful people that came from all over the world (Athens, Brazil, USA, Cyprus, Sweden-Norway, Turkey): film directors, activists, scientists, parents of lgbtq children and lgbt parents. Everyone that visited to the 15th Thessaloniki Int. LGBT Film Festival shared their thoughts, their experiences and the joy of participation. This year the turnout was significantly higher, given the financial crisis, and the films met the high expectations of the audience as it was expressed by its votes. Moreover, two thirds of the films had English subtitles additionally to the Greek ones that all films had, to facilitate English speaking audience. Once again this year our Festival promoted humanitarian values which all of us consider consubstantial and undivided. The opening of the Festival coincided with the murder of a progressive musician, Pavlos Fyssas, while the closing with the arrest of the criminals-members of Greece’s neo-nazi party, Golden Dawn. To honor both the victims of racist hatred and people of labour and progress who are being disrespected, the first prize is dedicated to the two men that were murdered in 2013, the refugee Shextzat Luqman and the musician Pavlos Fyssas and to the 50 murdered refugees during the last ten years in Greece. With optimism and joy we “close the curtain” to this year’s event and start the preparations for the next Festival in 2014. We intent to include a free entrance section for the younger audience, better films and many more lectures and discussions. Until next September… SYMPRAXI - Partnership for Gender Issues September, 2013
