Enduing Hardship as Discipline: Perhaps the most asked question - TopicsExpress

Enduing Hardship as Discipline: Perhaps the most asked question about Job is, “Why would God allow Satan the freedom to take such a good man as Job to the very edge before God stepped in to ask 64 questions no one could answer and get things more than right again?” Dr. David Jeremiah has stated that he believes that God needs to and will break a man or woman that he plans to use in a great way. Paul writes in Hebrews 12 about discipline, and remember discipline is teaching and education, not punishment, a major treatise on discipline basically quoted from Proverbs. God put Moses, after the plush upbringing in Pharaoh’s house, on the back side of the desert as a shepherd for 40 years to get him ready. I am not sure about everybody, but for me 18 days on the medically dead list, two years in 7 different hospitals, for 12 or more weeks at a time, and only one doctor and my wife really believing I would make it, sure did wonders for my “Me do it me self” nature, my Ramboesque behavior and centered my attention on obedience to God, leaving the consequence to Him. One of my disciplines in my Cultural Anthropology studies was to correlate the histories of a number of cultures with the Hebrew history in a historical accurate and collaborated way. While the 12 sons of Jacob were shepherds turned slaves in a 400 year run in Egypt, many of their kin countries are developing and prospering. Along the very fertile western shore line of what is today Saudi Arabia, there develop several related countries from Mt. Lars (the Exodus Mt. Sinai), to the trans Jordan of modern Israel; Uz, Edom, Moab and Ammon. The land of Uz, totally separate, but politically connected to the two descendents of Lot, and the one the well settled land of Esau. These countries created an Eastern wall that kept Egypt from moving politically and militarily to the east; more on Esau and Edom next week. In Uz, God had the greatest man of the East, Job. A wealthy, very moral, very God honoring man about whom God bragged. God, who is always a long range planner, saw the coming political union of Uz, Edom and Moab. What the Egyptian records call Sinuhe and Shutu were ruled by a very successful co regents from the three countries, Koshar, Zabilanu and Ayyabum, the Egyptian name for Job (from the Mirgissa texts). Job a contemporary of Abraham’s grand children, was a fantastic Entrepreneur, I have a deep feeling that Melchizedek was his mentor as well as Abraham’s. Just perhaps God needed to center Job on God and allowed Satan, “God’s lion on a leash,” to put Job on “The back side of the desert” for a month or so, to get him ready for an international assignment. Job that was perhaps 50 to 65-years-of-age in the great epic poem in the book of Job, lived 140 years after, seeing his returned, or new 10 children to the fourth generation. In that 140 years there is the time to fill in 1870 to 1850 BC a political assignment (more on God gifting Job later). Paul puts it plain in Heb.12:10, “God disciplines us for our good, and that we may share in His holiness…to produce a harvest of righteousness). My dear ones do not despise the discipline of God. Love//Herb.
