Enemies who are able to attack this countrys corporate operations without so much as leaving their chairs really says something about both the danger and wonders of our times. In 1962, the Telstar satellite was introduced, a hugely expensive piece of Space Age technology that provided flexible video, audio, and data communication among continents, not only providing live television news from across the globe but also paving the way for GPS as we know it today. It was so celebrated that there actually was a popular song that honored this advance (perhaps historys first techno-pop). Today, such communication occurs person-to-person anytime we want, and its simply part of our lives in the way using the telephone to call a neighbor is. We are able to pull out our hand-held devices and speak to anyone in the world while seeing their faces, and at no real cost than what the few dollars we spend on our monthly data plan. I may not have known a world without Telstar or its succeeding technologies, but I find these advances just remarkable, and maybe a little disturbing.
