Enthusiastic Muslim participation in #SwachhBharat Shramdaan organized by @MGCentre One of the many happy experiences of the ‘Shramdaan’ organized by the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Sanitation, Cleanliness and Community Health at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) Railway Station in Mumbai yesterday was the spirited participation by nearly hundred girls and teachers from Al-Muminah School at Masjid Bunder. Many of these girls had come from as far as Mumbra. And they took active part in cleaning up the railway station. They also engaged in a lively interaction with Shri Sunil Kumar Sood, General Manager, Central Railway, who appreciated their commitment to the cause of Clean India. The credit for bringing these girl students and their teachers goes to Dr. Shehnaz Sheikh, principal of the school. She was one of the main speakers at the seminar on Muslim Girls’ Education organized by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) Mumbai on September 30, 2014. She said that Islam attaches great importance to cleanliness. One of the seminal teachings Prophet Mohammed is that “Cleanliness is half imaan (piousness)”.
