Episode Five of the MRR Mad NG Dash We had to make an executive - TopicsExpress

Episode Five of the MRR Mad NG Dash We had to make an executive decision, did we break our necks trying to get to the other side of Bala Lake to catch the train leaving Bala at 3pm ( a tall order, even for my lead foot) or did we take it steady and go to Llanuwchllyn to the main station and yard of the Bala Lake Railway. Common sense prevailed and we headed for the yard which was a great decision in the end as this allowed us the luxury of a sit down with a cup of tea and a bit of cake on the station platform. The Bala Lake railway is run on the old Great Western Railway standard gauge track bed. As you can see from one of the pictures, this leaves plenty of room for our plucky little narrow gauge engines. Again just like Corris, we were busy looking around the yard and signal box when we were invited into the engine shed by a young lady who was busy working inside. This gave us the opportunity to get up close to Maid Marion and Holy War. Alice the open top cabriolet Hunslet was out and busy pulling happy passengers. There were also two Hunslet chassis in the shop that were in the process of restoration. Now topped up with tea and cake we set forth for Betws-Y-Coed.
