Even as Shiv Sena MPs have denied allegations of forcing a Muslim catering supervisor to break his Ramzan fast at Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi last week, a video footage grabbed by Zee Media has emerged which clearly shows Rajan Vichare, Sena MP from Thane, forcing the Muslim supervisor to eat chapati. We demand that the Lok Sabha Speaker should immediately order a time-bound probe into the highly condemnable, shameful and inhuman act committed by Shiv Sena MPs inside Maharashtra Sadan. The country is outraged at the shameful incident and is in a state of shock, and the Lok Sabha Speaker is duty-bound to prevent the institution of Parliament from being disgraced by such MPs who neither understand their responsibility as public representatives, nor do they have any respect for the right to religious freedom of citizens of the country. There are precedents before the Speaker to set-up a special parliamentary committee and ask for a report within a definite time frame, following which exemplary action should be taken against these MPs. The Indian Express news story now stands corroborated by video evidence, which leaves no doubt that the Shiv Sena MPs, drunk with arrogance of power, resorted to inhuman behavior against a catering supervisor. The Speaker should immediately seek the entire documentary and video evidence and proceed with the probe to safeguard the dignity of Parliament. There are reports that atleast 11 Shiv Sena MPs were present when one of their colleagues forced a staff member, who was fasting for Ramzan to eat a chapati. An MP is clearly shown in a video trying to forcibly feed a helpless man. The facts of the case are absolutely clear and the only point to be ascertained is how many MPs were actually abetting the crime. If MPs indulge in such behavior should they continue in the House ? Does an MP have a right to treat staff members in this manner ? Can they hurt religious sentiments of people ? The Maharashtra Sadan incident poses a challenge for the institution of Parliament and the people of the country are looking towards the Speaker to set an example by taking stringent action against such MPs.
