Every day 3 people in Wales lose their sight. NHS Wales spends 120 – 370 million on eye and vision problems. Sight loss leads to decreased quality of life and effects not only the individual but also the family and society. 50% of sight loss is avoidable with early detection and treatment. Your eye sight is the most important sense you have. The importance of maintaining good healthy eye-sight is important for all. However certain groups of people are at a higher risk of developing eye disease, for instance: Glaucoma and Cataract are 5 times more common in black community People from South Asian descent are 6 times more likely to develop diabetes and therefore Diabetic Retinopathy. 1 in 10 people from Minority Ethnic Communities over the age of 65 will experience serious sight loss.
