Every day as a parent is a new experience and a new lesson. Todays - TopicsExpress

Every day as a parent is a new experience and a new lesson. Todays lesson is listening and not how you think. Many times as parents we are forcing out children to sit down be quiet and listen to me. How often do we listen to them, I mean really listen. Do we only listen for their words or do we listen to their actions as well? Often times as parents we are too busy or too caught up in ourselves and miss listening or queuing in on what they are trying to say. Today was one of those days. All morning Ive been fighting with trying to get Laney and I tickets to Disney on Ice. After struggling forever with online and phone calls I procured some tickets. However during this struggle I failed to listen to Laney. She tried very hard to get my attention so that I would play with her. I would accommodate for a while but quickly back on my hunt for tickets. So after telling her the exciting news I was greeted with something I didnt expect. Daddy do we have to go? Can we stay home and play or go to the park with my friends? I am ashamed to admit my first reactions inside was that of anger. I was selfishly thinking I wasted the while morning to surprise her with this and she doesnt want to go. I was correct though I and I alone wasted the morning. Laney had been trying to tell me all morning she would rather hang with me and play. I failed to listen with my ears and with my eyes. I quickly cancelled the ticket order and a bed wrestling match ensued. I won of course but besides that she was the overall winner by finally getting daddy to listen to her wants and needs. So rather than Disney princesses our day with consist of parks, water-guns and egg coloring followed by a return trip to her mothers. So lesson learned listen to your child more and it will save you time and money ..... most days lol.
