Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary Suzgo Nyirenda announced that the association had reached an agreement with Rwanda Football Federation for the two sides to spar ahead of September 7 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria. “Fam would like to inform all soccer loving Malawians that the Malawi Senior National Team (The Flames) will play against Rwanda National Team on 14th August 2013 – Fifa Calendar date after successfully agreeing on the terms for the friendly match,” Nyirenda said. “The Flames are expected to travel to Kigali on Sunday 11th August and will return home on 15th August after the match. The Rwanda Football Federation(FERWAFA)will take care of the hotel accommodation/meals and local transport for the 25 member Malawi National Team delegation that will travel to Kigali while FAM will meet travelling expenses for its delegation.” The GS said the association was confident that the game would give new coach Tom Saintfiet a chance to prepare for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Nigeria next month. “The friendly match against Rwanda will give the new Malawi National Team Coach Tom Saintfiet an opportunity to try his tactics as the team prepares for the crucial encounter against Nigeria -scheduled for 7th September 2013 in Calabar,” he said. Saintfiet will name his squad to go into camp next week in preparation for the friendly match. Nigeria needs a draw to make it to last qualifying round while the Flames need a win.
