FORWARD Kane Hemmings is on the lookout for a new club after pre-season started at Murray Park this morning without him in tow. The Englishman, 21, has been out of contract since his old terms expired at the end of last month. And as Ally McCoist’s players gathered at Auchenhowie, the former Tamworth youth was absent from the group. Hemmings scored his first senior league goal for the Light Blues in a 4-1 win over Queen’s Park at Hampden in April. That came after he had netted four times in a successful loan spell at First Division outfit Cowdenbeath in January and February. Hemmings hoped he would be offered a new deal but he hasn’t received anything thus far and is now focused on trying to secure a full-time contract elsewhere. The attacker made a total of 10 competitive appearances following his debut as a substitute in the 1-1 away Champions League qualifying draw with Malmo in August 2011. Hemmings scored one other top-team counter in a 4-1 friendly victory at Linfield two and a half weeks before that fixture in Sweden. Having shown great promise in the youth ranks, the striker later endured a torrid time with knee injuries but overcame them to regain fitness in the closing months of last season. Now, after training well during the summer break, he is optimistic of being able to continue his career at a good level. Hemmings said: “I’m gutted to be leaving the club as I’d hoped I might be offered something else but I’m looking forward to a new challenge now. “I need to get games and that’s my aim but I’ll always keep an eye open for Rangers’ results as I love the club and I wish the boys there all the best for the new campaign.” /George
