However rare true love may be, it is less so than true friendship. ~ Francois de La Rochefoucauld Family = life Friends = life I’ve lived away from my family for over 8 years, and through that I’ve TRULY realized the blessing and importance of friendships. They DO become your family, and apart from family, they are something I cherish above all else. Friends are like gold to me, and I value them to the extreme. I call them ‘super friendships’ if you will. I want to be you ‘superfriend’ – who cares about super woman – ‘superfriend’ is where it’s at! I am someone who doesn’t have ‘a lot’ of friends as the friends that I do have mean the absolute world to me, ones that I would do ANYTHING for. I rather devote the time I do have with people that I love to the fullest, then spread myself thin trying to hop from this place to that place or trying to connect 24/7 with people/acquaintances/mingling. Not my cup of tea. They have a piece of my heart and I love and cherish them for their own unique beauty and soul. Living authentically in their presence -knowing your heart, not just knowing ‘you’ -being there for you, even when they are struggling themselves. If ever I am having troubles or feeling down, being there for my friends heals my own heart and soul. -coffees where the hours pass and you don’t look at your watch or phone ONCE (I think there should be a rule! No phones on the table!) -holding your hand when you are scared -knowing you can call ANYTIME/ANYWHERE – I want my friends to know they can do that to me. I am available 24/7 365 days a year! -helping you move! This one is more logical. But moving is no fun, and we all know how how handy extra hands are. So know if you ever move, I will be there to help. -Just LISTEN. Sometimes we just need someone to listen. That is all. Just listen. It is one of life’s biggest gifts. Often we are too caught up in our own lives, what will we say next, our story, our experience… -knowing intuitively if you are having a bad day – sending a text, calling, going for coffee…and it just feels like they knew EXACTLY how you were feeling -calling and texting just because – no reason. Just to say hi and I love you -to understand and be understood -rejoices in your successes and sorrows in your pain -regular contact – although I have friends where you can contact after a year of not seeing them and it seems like nothing has changed! my best and true friends – it is constant and regular calls, texts, e-mails, skypes…friendships, just like marriages and relationships need nurturing, love, tenderness and care. -someone who will stand by you, defend you and ‘take a bullet for you’ when others are bringing you down -honesty – I know I want someone to tell me the good and honest truth, even if it’s not what I want to hear. They will do so in the most delicate of manners, I know it is coming from a place of LOVE -supportive of your goals – no questions asked -TRUST – no explanation needed -acceptance you for who you are, through THICK AND THIN -There for you NO. MATTER. WHAT. Even if you want to be alone. I will let you know that I am there for you, and even bang down your door if you won’t let me in…I meant it, I am there for you! These are just a few, and I could go on and on as friendship to me is more valuable than gold. I hope and know you have these people in my life – make sure you nurture, celebrate and express your gratitude to these people in your lives. Sometimes we don’t do it enough.
