FROM THE CLASSICAL POINT OF VIEW THE NORTHERN EMANCIPATION NETWORK - TopicsExpress

FROM THE CLASSICAL POINT OF VIEW THE NORTHERN EMANCIPATION NETWORK (NEM) MAY BE RIGHT, BUT FROM POSITIVIST POINT OF VIEW THEY ARE WRONG The view expressed by the Coordinator of the Northern Emancipation Network may seem right from the point of view of classical analysis of events such as whether Gen Muhammadu Buhari is the only Northerner eminently qualified to run a presidential election 4 times without giving other younger ones chance and what new things he is now bringing to the table. Again they may be inquisitive as to what made Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to change his mind to endorse Buhari after opposing his bid in 2003, 2007 and even in 2011 even after he has completed his two terms in office. There is also the critical evaluation of morality that makes Buhari to seek the support of Babangiday who ousted him from power on August 27 1985. Also when it is considered that Gen Buhari sacked his first wife for seeking help from Gen Babangida during the period of the formers detention. However as a positivist, I see things differently from philosophical point of view. Firstly I I hold tenaciously to the fact that in politics, there is no permanent hostility or friendship, but permanent interest. For example, if Babangida wanted his son to contest gubernatorial election for Niger State under PDP and this was not realised, hiss interest in the party may have been shifted. The toxic political rancour between Buruji Kashamu and Chief Obasanjo is such that he might want to distance himself with the leader of that party Dr Goodluck Jonathan for not extraditing the alleged drug offender There is an underlying factor that must be given due consideration This is the fact that Nigerian nation is made up of a mutually distrustful and antagonistic ethnic nationalities with divergent aspirations and interests. We need to find an agreeable position that will suitably ensure equitable and suitable form of political association that will form the basis of better quality of life for our people, that will prevent the past and present tragedies which continue to afflict the nation on account of ethnic diversity. If Gen Buhari stretches his hands of fellowship across the River Niger to seek unity of this country, he deserves to be commended It is also for this I doff my heart for the various elements in the upper echelon of APC from the 6 goe-political zones of the country, for their bridge building effort at this time of history of Nigeria.
