FROM THE NEWSROOM: (CRN) As Connecticut kids will be going back to school over the next two weeks, the AAA says this is a good time for motorists to brush up their safe driving skills to be ready. The AAAs Fran Mayko says drivers need to be ready for the start of the new school year when traveling in school zones or popular routes near local schools, because kids cant be counted on the be careful. “A lot of people get caught up in the excitement of back-to-school, and sometimes they just forget to look for cars,” she says. “And also, the younger the child is, they just have trouble making accurate judgments about traffic speed or distance.” Mayko says research shows afternoon hours between 3 and 7 p.m. tend to be most dangerous for pedestrian accidents; perhaps because student departure times are extended because of various after school activities.
