Favouritism allegedly being practiced within GJM TU KURSEONG, 13 Jun 2014: Alleging ‘favouritism’ within his party’s trade union representatives, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha Majua branch president Rudra Tamang has appealed to the senior leadership to take immediate steps on the matter. Talking to reporters in Kurseong today, Tamang said some representatives of the Darjeeling Terai Dooars Plantation Labour Union (DTDPLU) have been practicing ‘anti-labour’ activities in the Man-Majua tea plantation region under Kurseong sub-division. He further said the local trade union leadership has been creating chaos in the tea estate by adopting an anti-worker policy. “Our forefathers have worked in the garden, but some local trade union leaders are saying we are outsiders and upon retirement, no other family member can take our place in the tea estate,” claimed Tamang. He further said the area where they live still falls under the tea estate and land documents are registered in the garden’s name. “We have been paying ‘raja khajana’ to the panchayat. Moreover, my wife still works in the estate. Hence, how can they say we do not belong to the tea garden?” When this correspondent tried to contact DTDPLU representatives, they could not be reached.
