Feeling a bit Ministerial this morning, and this came through my newsfeed again. Hits the nail on the head, but I wanted to add one more thing to it. Whether or not you are Catholic, or even religious, Mother Teresa reminded/reminds us that even when people are assholes, to be polite and understanding anyway. THAT is a tough one. Here is what I do when I come across the mildly annoying, the curmudgeon to the out and out asshole: I try to first walk in their shoes, think critically about their Earth Walk and what would lead them to be so disagreeable in that situation, or overall. We are all after all, fighting battles no one knows about. For me, if it is a situational asshole attack, I try to see their side, or why at that moment they are out of sorts. Patience and understanding, compassion and empathy are the tools to use. HOWEVER many times, people are merely assholes in and of themselves. So what to do? You WALK AWAY. Simple. And, giving said out and out asshole a proverbial piece of your mind does ZERO good. They are not in a place Spiritually, mentally or emotionally to grasp the concepts you are trying to get across. It is a waste of breath, a waste of your energy and time. You are not the asshole whisperer. What you are though is responsible for YOURSELF, and how YOU conduct yourself at ALL TIMES, including that one. The good manners our parents instilled in us encompasses our dealings with lifes assholes too, not just which fork to use or not farting in public (not even at walmart). Treat others in the way you wish to be treated, even if they are idiots. The only time I can see, that someone needs accosting, be it verbal or in extreme cases I am about to list, physical, would be when an Innocent is being harmed in any way, shape or form. Child, Elder or animal - step the hell up folks. Those individuals arent being assholes, they are being EVIL. There is a difference. And remember, even Jesus flipped over tables to get His point across on occasion ;)
