Fellow Western Togolanders, its a privilege to be gathered here - TopicsExpress

Fellow Western Togolanders, its a privilege to be gathered here this day; considering the fact that, this meeting is historic in nature. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, please permit me to crave your indulgence by way of wetting your appetite with the preamble of the constitution of Western Togoland Assembly: In accordance with the principles proclaimed in the charter of the United Nations that, there is an express recognition of the inherent dignity, equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family (The United Nations International Covenant On Civil And Political Rights). The Western Togoland Assembly hereto sets out for the freedom, justice and peace of her people of Western Togoland, the former Trust Territory placed under the Administering Authority of United Kingdom Government. We the people of Western Togoland have determined to end Ghanas annexation of Western Togoland currently, and to obtain self-government or true independence for the same as stipulated in article 76 b of the UN Charter through legal and democratic principles... Ditinguished ladies and gentlemen, Western Togoland as we all know refers to that part of the former German Togoland laying to the west whose territorial boundaries were entrenched under article 22 of the covenant of the League of Nations and thereafter placed under the Administering Authority of United Kingdom Government under the charter of the United Nations, Article 76 b, and Trusteeship Agreement approved by General Assembly in resolution 63 (I) of 13th December 1946, granted independence under the same in 1957. Ladies and gentlemen, what we seek to do now as a people is to end Ghanas illegal annexation Cum colonisation of our beloved motherland. With the will-power, unity of purpose and strong determination, this noble dream will in the shortest practicable time be a reality! Ladies and gentlemen, we are highly convinced that this legitimate and genuine struggle can be won provided the following thematic points are taken into consideration: 1. UNITY OF PURPOSE; if this dream is to see the day of light, we must as Togolanders desist from divisive tendencies or tactics within our ranks, and fight as a formidable force. Western Togoland is one unit! One family! One sovereign state! and must be treated as such. In Western Togoland, we know neither Southerners nor Northerners, no Ewes nor Kusasis and no Muslims nor Christians. The fact that the 1956 Plebiscite results from both sections were added to arrive at 58% is to 42% in favour of union with Ghana goes a long way to attest to this ideology of oneness. 2. PEACE; Western Togolanders are a peace-loving people. Of what use will it be to kill the very people we intend liberating? To this end, our activities must be as peaceful as possible. 3. LEGITIMACY; our course as Western Togolanders must not only be peaceful, but democratic and legitimate. Legitimate in the sense that, we will not, cannot and shall not yield to the temptation of either stealing an inch of Ghanas territory or that of any of our immediate neighbouring countries whatsoever reason or relinquishing an inch of our cherished land to Ghana or any of our immediate neighbouring countries. Lets be guarded by the maxim that he who seeks equity must come with clean hands A deliberate distortion of our original map as Western Togolanders will make our case illegitimate before the international community and all well-meaning people. Ladies and gentlemen, Western Togoland is worth more than a twenty four carat of gold to us and as such, issues concerning our motherland should not in any way be toyed with. In as much as we preach unity among our ranks, we do not intend to succumb to any ploy to redraw our unique map in the name of unity. We will religiously follow and apply the true map of Western Togoland in all our struggles and dealings to make our case as credible, genuine and legitimate as it is. Thank you and may God bless us all. Signed ~Bright Mumuni~
