Finally — a forum involving candidates for the 7th District - TopicsExpress

Finally — a forum involving candidates for the 7th District congressional seat! The discussion will feature candidates — you read that right, it’s plural — but the lineup won’t include Republican incumbent Billy Long. Democrat candidate Jim Evans and Kevin Craig, the Libertarian candidate, have agreed to share the stage Tuesday in a forum being co-sponsored by the Missouri State University Center for Community Engagement and the Southwest Missouri chapter of the League of Women Voters. The league had posted on its Facebook page earlier this week that Long had declined its invitation. That was confirmed Friday by Mike Stout, center director and associate professor of sociology and anthropology at MSU. The purpose of the forum is to give the candidates an opportunity to share information about their campaigns and their legislative agendas, and to help voters decide which candidates would best represent the 7th District as they head to the polls in less than a month. Stout said the forum will go on without Long and that he expects it will be informative. The event is open to the public and will start at 7 p.m. at the theater in the Plaster Student Union. Evans also has held several earlier forums, inviting Long, who has not attended.
