First day of pre-op appointments went well. We saw anesthesiology, - TopicsExpress

First day of pre-op appointments went well. We saw anesthesiology, everything looks good and well see them again before her surgery. We saw the Pulmonologist, Dr. Mayer, he was kind, concerned, and informative. He explained that due to Azarias severe rotational scoliosis, her ribs are very abnormally placed and her left lung is being squished (her heart is also out of place). He would like to have her admitted to the hospital two days prior to surgery to begin pulmonary treatments that will help her have greater success of being extubated after the surgery. One of my concerns for the surgery has been if Azaria will be able to successfully come of the ventilator and breathe on her own. Dr. Mayer seemed confident that she will do well. Seeing Azarias x-rays today really puts things in perspective just how badly she needs this surgery. We didnt get the MRI done today, that will be Thursday, along with multiple CT scans. She will likely be under for quite a few hours on Thursday for all those tests. Tomorrow the high in Philadelphia will be 18 degrees, wish us luck!
