Folks, Trying to get a feel for what a logging forester should - TopicsExpress

Folks, Trying to get a feel for what a logging forester should get to harvest some timber on a percent basis that a mill would pay the logger for transported logs. Got one guy who said that he will pay 60% and he will take 40% to harvest the trees and haul them out to the mill. Another logger told me 50-50. Since this ground was timbered off say 30 to years ago, the log roads are already there to get the timber out. They may need to be cleared some for downed trees but the bulk of the log road work has already been done. Seems to me that the buyer keeping 40% of the take is rather high for what I think he will have to do. The bulk of the timber being harvested is soft maple with some other stuff in there such as hemlock, white pine, ash, cherry and oak. If someone has a source for that information on a local forester in the log business, please let me know. Thank you for any information that you can provide to me on this. Like · · Promote · Share
