Food for thought: Gossiping. It’s like reheating a meal. Talking turns the heat back up, and before you know it, the dish is boiling over again. Repeating to others therefore becomes an unhealthy way to spend our time, as it simply stirs us up and causes inner turmoil. Festering on wrong words won’t make them right and will not bring us peace. Proverbs has a lot to say on the subject of gossip. Proverbs 18:8 says, “The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts,” and Proverbs 26:20 goes on: “Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.” Gossip is rather like a double-edged sword—spreading it is dangerous, but so is hearing it. Participating either way is corrupting to our heart and soul. Jesus says in Mark 4:24, “Consider carefully what you hear,” because who and what we listen to affects our hearts. So be wise with what you say, but also be wise in what you allow yourself to hear. Redman, Beth (2010-07-01). God Knows My Name: Never Forgotten, Forever Loved (p. 137). David C Cook. Kindle Edition.
