For Bertoluccis The Last Emperor, Hans van Pinxteren put his Roseville Cinema staff in Chinese uniforms and himself in a white tuxedo and a skull-cap with a long tassel. He brought in a rickshaw and lion dancers and, to enter the cinema, guests walked over a little Chinese bridge. The incursion of videos and home theatres made not a dent in the cinemas box-office. He put on more than just the movie, he put on a show, says Emma van Pinxteren, 42, Hans daughter and the director of the cinema. He just worked it so that people had a good night out.
