For Release:Aug. 4, 2014 (10 a.m.) Contact: Jeff Fontana, BLM (530) 252-5332 Heidi Perry, LNF (530) 252-6604 Firefighters Making Progress on Day Fire, More Resources Arrive for Bald and Eiler Fires Fire crews are making progress containing the 12,975-acre Day Fire northeast of Fall River Mills and hope to have the fire contained by firelines by Saturday, Aug. 9. The blaze is now 55 percent contained and an evacuation for residents in the Lookout Ranchettes has been lifted. Fire information is available by calling (530) 638-3614. The Eiler Fire, four miles southeast of Burney, has now burned 25,900 acres on the Lassen National Forest. Evacuations remain in place for the communities of Cassel, Johnson Park and Big Eddy Estates. There is an evacuation advisory for Burney. Residents should be prepared to evacuate if advised to do so. Eight homes, a business, 20 other buildings, and the historic post office in the Hat Creek Area have been lost in the fire. There have been no structures lost in the evacuated communities. Evacuation Centers are in place at Fall River High School in McArthur and at Black Butte School near Shingletown. Highway 89 remains closed from the junction with Highway 44 at Old Station north to the junction with Highway 299. Highway 299 remained closed this morning from the junction with Highway 89 west to a point 1.2 miles east of Burney. An evacuation is in place for the Little Valley area. No structures have been lost. Bald Fire information is available at (530) 336-6553 There are 1,760 personnel working on the Eiler Fire along with 125 fire engines and 15 bulldozers. Nearly 1,500 firefighters are working on the Bald Fire. There are 190 fire engines and 15 bulldozers assigned. Helicopters and air tankers have been used on both fires. Eiler Fire information is available at (530) 225-2510. The fire has forced closures of recreation sites. The Lassen National Forest has closed the Thousand Lakes Wilderness and the Honn, Rocky and Bridge campgrounds. The Pacific Crest Trail is closed between Highway 44 and Highway 299.
