For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare - TopicsExpress

For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to battle? I Cor. 14:8 Trumpets were used by armies to sound distinct calls to tell soldiers what to do in time of battle. Often the noise of the fighting was so loud that it was impossible to hear the vocal commands of those in charge. The trumpet with its loud shrill sound could be heard above the noise. Calls such as charge, retreat, officers call, could often determine the course of the battle. If the soldiers would hear the wrong call being made, the results could spell disaster. The church must sound a distinct sound to the world as far as the direction of battle is concerned. The lives of its people is at stake. The eternal destination of men and women are at risk! The voice of the church has been silenced in many corners for fear of being offensive and being critized. We have moved from tolerance to acceptance to giving an invitation to join. We must return to giving a distinct sound and a clear voice to a needy world!
