For me personally the purpose of facebook is to encourage heightened connectivity and exposure to varied perspectives (like grumpy cat). In general I seem to seek discussions where view points can be held in opposition and examined from multiple perspectives. However whenever I attempt this I feel I am met with the most basic forms of social malice. Straight out of middle school. It is as if having any one belief challenged is detrimental to our sense of self. The act of challenge - or stating a oppositional belief - can be seen as egoic or arrogant. What is wrong with sharing alternative perspectives? Why can we not criticize, construct, or reconstruct our basic arguments without becoming personally involved. Is the act of seeking opposition, or sharing differences, itself a product of ego? Is that even a bad thing? Ideally I envision a dance. An ego blooming to create and withering to concede. All in time with the process of discussion. . Butting heads seems second nature. Why is their so much personally at stake in or outside of conflict?
