For our crossover athletes(Track/Soccer) JSCR article title: Effects of a Contrast Training Program on Vertical Jump, Kicking Speed, Sprint, and Agility of Young Soccer Players Abstract: Results suggest that a specific CT(Contrast Training) program is effective for improving soccer-specific skills such as vertical jump, sprint, agility, and kicking speed in young soccer players. We took this research and implemented it this summer. We asked Lauren Anderson if she would be willing to be our test rat to make sure it worked. She agreed. We video taped her baseline test which measured biomechanics, kicking speed, ball angle, and ball velocity. We also measured her deceleration, change of direction, vertical jump and agility. We incorporated a Contrast Training protocol which included Complex Training(Functional Movement Lifts utilizing Post Activation Potentiation during plyometrics). The results were AMAZING! LA had a substantial ball speed increase, her velocity increased through her better kicking mechanics and all other areas had substantial gains! The cool thing about this is, this is the exact same thing we were already doing with our Track athletes. We only added specificity when going over soccer specific skills, and a large emphasis on proper kicking, deceleration and change of direction mechanics. We video taped all the test so we could verify results. We gave those videos to LA so she could have them as a recruiting tool. For those athletes that are Track/Soccer, we will be incorporating some of this next summer. This will allow the girls to be better all around!
