For those that dont know, there is a new series called Power that airs on the Starz Network. Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) produces the show and is a part of the cast. The lead character is played by Omari Hardwick. The reason I mentioned this show is because based on a lot of comments Ive read, Black Women are upset about Omari Hardwicks character having an affair which makes me chuckle. Omari Hardwicks character has a Black Wife, but hes having an affair with his first love who is Latina. Lets point out the hypocrisy. Black Women have NO problem with Scandal where the main character(Kerry Washington) is a white mans whore, but on Power its an issue because its a Black Man cheating on his Black Wife. But I thought we were all good with the whore? So now theres anger at a show where a Black Man is guilty of infidelity, but we champion the whore of Scandal. See the hypocrisy? But wait! Im not done yet. Naturi Naughton plays the role of Omari Hardwicks wife, the one Black Women are acting like is the poor victim. Shes her husband ride or die that gets dogged out by her husband. Po lil tink tink. Except she is NOT innocent. She has engaged in very inappropriate behavior with their driver. Though she hasnt physically cheated, she has done some things that is inappropriate for a wife but I rarely see comments where Black Women are holding her accountable for HER indiscretions. I wanted to write about this because again it displays our hypocrisy as Black Women, but it also shows how self absorbed we are. We are ok with a Black Woman being a whore as long as she is deemed powerful/successful, but we dont like it when show depicts a Black Man having an affair on his Black Wife because then we feel it, we get all up in arms when a Black Woman is cheated on. Im saying if youre gonna champion for the whore...than champion for the WHORE....stop with all the special pleading. But that would be to much like right. #TheAgitator
