For those who are unfamiliar with Obengas language classification - TopicsExpress

For those who are unfamiliar with Obengas language classification system, as reconstructed in his work _Origine commune de légyptien ancien, du copte et des langues négro-africaines modernes – Introduction à la linguistique historique africaine, Paris, L’Harmattan, 1993_, below is a map of his reconstruction for the language phylum called NEGRO-EGYPTIAN. Do you see the different languages that are under the UMBRELLA of Negro-Egyptian? Notice how the ancient Egyptian language is a LANGUAGE under the Negro-Egyptian umbrella? This should clear up any confusion for anyone trying to argue that these languages, which we argue are related, DERIVE (that means comes from) the ancient Egyptian language. No one is making that argument. Tshiluba is a Brother/Sister language. It does not come out of ancient Egyptian (M-E). Now, Obengas work was done over 20 years ago. An updated analysis that built off of his work has been done by Mboli (2010). Obengas map has been refined but Mboli keeps the Negro-Egyptian label from Obenga (1993). Dont let anyone confuse you on this subject. We must be diligent in our studies and not make assumptions.
