For those who havent seen the original 1956 BART plan, please take a look. The idea was for BART to extend throughout San Francisco, north past Santa Rosa, south past San Jose, and much more extensively through the East Bay. Imagine if wed had the political and financial courage to build out this plan. Imagine what it would mean for the region today. Next time someone tells you its too expensive, hard, or time-consuming to build high speed rail, a second BART tube, or an additional subway line, please recall this map. When it comes to transit infrastructure, we almost never regret building something, but we sure do regret failing to build it.
