Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has launched the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trades new Consular Strategy 2014-16 for providing consular services to Australians overseas. The new strategy emphasizes priority to those Australians in the most difficult circumstances. It also emphasizes there must be less latitude to ones who have unreasonable demands of consular assistance or whose actions are wilfully reckless. The Australian High Commission encourages all Australian citizens living in Pakistan to visit the Smartraveller website and review the relaunched Consular Services Charter which outlines what the Australian Government can and can’t do for its citizens if something goes wrong during their visit or stay in Pakistan or any other country.
