Former National Park Service Director Robert Stanton recently received the inaugural Colonel Charles Young Diversity Recognition Award. The award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of someone who fosters greater appreciation, advancement, and celebration of diversity and inclusiveness in national parks. Members of the Official Omega Psi Phi Fraternity attended the ceremony to honor fraternity brothers Stanton and Young. Stanton has worked tirelessly to support and preserve African American history in national parks, both as director and as a trustee of the National Park Foundation’s African American Experience Fund which he established in 2001. The legacy of Young, the first African American superintendent of a national park, is commemorated at Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument.
