Former President Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda is deeply saddened by the extent of damage to property and loss of lives due to heavy flooding caused by persistent rainfall that the country has experienced over the past few days. Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda condoles the bereaved families that have lost their loved ones following this disaster. Similarly, the former Head of State would like to sympathize will Malawians who have lost various property, including houses. Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda wishes to commend His Excellency President Peter Mutharika for declaring a State of Disaster. This declaration will ensure speedy mobilization of humanitarian assistance from local and international well-wishers to alleviate the suffering that the victims are currently facing. Finally, Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda wishes to encourage all Malawians to unite in helping the victims of this disaster without regard to political, religious, tribal and racial extraction. The former Head of State joins Malawians in praying for all the victims of this tragedy so that their lives may return to normal quickly.
