Four roles – Choose one… Short excerpt from our presentation and DVD, “The Parents Role in Athletics” In every athletic competition there are only four roles – players, coaches, spectators and officials. Before you get to the game, it is better for the athlete if everyone just chooses one of those roles. Trying to get the team prepared to perform well is the responsibility of the coaches. It is the job of the official to monitor the game and make the judgment calls. The athlete’s job is to be a great teammate and compete to the best of their ability. The spectators can contribute by being encouragers and confidence builders. It is not the spectator’s responsibility to try to win or influence the outcome of the game from the bleachers.
