Frantically trying to suckle from her dead mother was dear little - TopicsExpress

Frantically trying to suckle from her dead mother was dear little Sunbeam, a one week old Angus Belgian Blue cross heifer. Yet no warmth could dear little Sunbeam find, no warmth that is until the warm heart of a Good Samaritan embraced her. As the absentee farmer deemed the tiny calf not worth the effort, the Good Samaritan argued otherwise and was granted her wish to save the innocent baby’s life. Perhaps, being a mother herself was what lead Sunbeam’s saviour to be so touched by the plight of the hapless creature, who she was to spend four desperate days in hostile conditions trying to catch. Enlisting the aid of equally kind souls, Sunbeam was at last corralled; however the calf continued to ail. A last ditch effort to save Sunbeam saw the call go out to Edgar’s Mission. A rescue team was quickly despatched and a weak little Sunbeam was soon sanctuary-bound. With fluids administered and health status checked, Sunbeam was soon made comfortable her luxurious straw filled stall. Our first signs of encouragement came as dear Sunbeam looked us in the eye and out came her tongue, licking her lips in the search for warm, life-sustaining milk, telling us just what to do next. While the road ahead is still a little rocky, the fact that Sunbeam has the strength and will to drink on her own is certainly cause for optimism. Stories such as Sunbeam’s are a true reminder that in animals we find our greatest measure. We can profit from their suffering, we can turn away from their pain or we can evoke some of the most noble of human qualities; those of kindness, tender mercy and compassion. We give thanks to all those who assisted in Sunbeam’s rescue and we are so very thankful that your hearts lie on the right side of kindness.
