Free milkweed seeds! It is time to plant milkweed for Monarchs - TopicsExpress

Free milkweed seeds! It is time to plant milkweed for Monarchs butterflies! We are giving away asclepias speciosa seeds, which is a native milkweed to the pacific northwest. It is toxic to livestock, but if you have gardens or natural habitat strips around your crops or other places in mind to grow them, great! Will probably be giving away the plants in the spring too, but seeding now is a nice way to get them naturalized on their own. If folks want seeds, Im asking for a self-addressed stamped envelope (where you put a stamped envelope addressed to yourself inside an envelope addressed and mailed to me). I would love to just mail them directly to you but the postage adds up and for now we dont quite have funding to distribute more freely. One day! please pm me if youre interested and Ill give you my address. Any questions can be discussed in the sister thread in Oregon Homesteading Chat. There has been a dramatic decline in the population due to habitat loss, and if you can believe it, non-native milkweed seems to be doing some harm as well. If anyone is willing to grow an especially large stand of milkweed for seed collection in the late summer Id love to hear from you and work something out.
