Freedom from being too self-conscious We don’t like to mess up. Our social conditioning and subsequent self-awareness is geared towards getting things right. At the same time, the hearts of other people warm up to you when you don’t take yourself too seriously all the time. Watching someone who, as their first instinct can laugh at themselves when the joke falls on them, draws us closer to them, because they’re aren’t afraid to be the butt of the joke. Why is it that we are sometimes afraid to be human? That fear itself is part of being human. Being human is a very interesting condition. It’s a marvelous condition, but an interesting one nonetheless. We are drawn us to those who can share and laugh about their foibles because they are not too attached to the human condition. Somewhere inside of us we can sense our shared humanity, and it is from there that we recognize our oneness with life. In what ways are you self-conscious and is that in anyway barricading you from fully experiencing your life? Don’t be afraid to mess up. And don’t be too shy to laugh at yourself. Find the place inside of you where you can sense that you are something that is much greater than any mistake, and live from that place. You are linked to your power when you’re free from attaching too strongly to the contents of your life. Contents include the things you do well and the things you don’t do well. Let your life be filled with the freedom, lightness and the sheer joy of experiencing life in human form, while simultaneously knowing that you are beyond form.
