Friday, January 2, 2015, 8:00 a.m. 24 degrees, breezy, overcast, flurries We finally received a nice amount of snow last night, and a little more is floating around in the gentle breeze right now. It is hard to tell how much fluff is out there, as some of the drifts were three feet deep, while other parts of the yard were blown bare. I would guess at least eight inches fell, maybe more. There is enough to give the new snowshoes a go later today, unless we decide to head to the city to stock up on staples. Our plans are literally up in the air... that is, if the snow thins out we will probably head down off of the Hill. Snow Ridge will not be open today but intends to open tomorrow. They will be closing early, as there is a snowmobile hill climbing event planned for the late afternoon and into the night. A mourning dove is perched atop the shepherd’s crook outside my window, perfectly still, its plump silhouette reminding me that it is a valuable game bird in our area, with plenty of tasty breast meat on their sleek bodies. I have never had it, but I would think it would taste like chicken... Have a great day, Daisy
