Friends, please allow me to give a practical lesson on beaching, using the attached pictures. The concept is mainly associated with whales and big fish literally left on the beach, hence beaching, when the tide recedes. In the attached pictures (pics 1), see how the boats are floating next to the HMS 1 (the big ship). The tide is still high, the water level deep enough to keep them afloat. And then...abracadabra...and the tide recedes - which loosely means the water retreats, pulling much further into the sea - thus leaving the boats beached, lying on the sand like they are at the beach, enjoying the sand. This is how the poor whales get caught out when hunting...chase after a seal and then when the tide recedes, the water is not deep enough to keep them afloat and swim back into the sea. fascinating, hey?
