From Brandon Chamber of Commerce: Dear Chamber Members, The Chamber of Commerce board of directors and staff would like to send out our most sincere thoughts and wishes to those who are affected by the flooding and adverse weather conditions. We will work to keep you updated on the conditions in the area. There has been a recent advisory that there will be another peak in the Assiniboine River levels, close to that of 2011, around July 6th or 7th. Since 2011 Brandon has made considerable improvements to the diking and the manholes on the sewer line that were problematic in 2011, so evacuation is not anticipated. It is highly recommended that businesses review their business continuity plan to ensure they have a plan in place in the event an evacuation is required. As the City of Brandon braces for the arrival of another 5-6 feet of water, there may be impacts to your staff, customers or suppliers that you want to give consideration to and plan for accordingly: • 1st Street North is closed as the peak approaches and remains closed until further notice • Grand Valley Road has been closed and will remain closed until July 31, 2014 • Travel on the Eastern Access Road may be limited or not available as the water approaches peak. • If employees live in the flood zone they will be under additional stress during the next few weeks.
