From Margie Wakefield: NEA and KNEA have endorsed my campaign! I am so pleased to announce that I have received the endorsement of the National Education Association and the KNEA. My good friend Mark Farr, President of the KNEA, said that I have an infectious energy for tackling difficult issues, while leaning on the expertise and experience of educators, parents, and citizens. Since I started this campaign over a year ago, Ive heard at every stop that Kansans have had enough of the unprecedented de-funding of our public education system by both Governor Brownback and Congress. Kansans take pride in the public education system that our teachers and students have created, but as block grants are slashed from the budget and Head Start funding falls victim to sequestration, education opportunities are increasingly vulnerable in our state. Lynn Jenkins voted FOR the Ryan Budget, which cuts $19 billion and 170,000 children out of Head Start and early education opportunities, while also cutting $89 billion from K-12 funding. That could cost 29,000 teachers their jobs and damage thousands of schools and millions of students across the country. Its just another example of Lynn Jenkins choosing a partisan, political agenda over the concerns of Kansans. Shes keeping her head in the clouds in Washington, while teachers and students are struggling on the ground in Kansas. Our public education system is essential to economic growth and leadership in Kansas. Our children are smart, hard-working, and can compete with students all over the world, but we have to give them the tools to succeed, which means giving our teachers the tools to succeed. We must support our teachers with the resources needed to create a high-quality learning environment that provides our children with a world-class education in Kansas. Its an honor to have the support of teachers from all across our district, our state, and our country. I will always be the first to raise my hand for public education in Washington. I need you to share this post with your friends, and let them know which candidate in this race supports our teachers and students.
