From Roc: As some of you may have seen, my wife, Tammy, has been dealing with some health issues recently. We learned in her late 20s that she has Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) but it hadnt presented any health issues until just a few weeks ago unexpectedly. At that time we learned that she is in stage 5 kidney failure. She has started dialysis which helps keep her blood healthy acting as an artificial kidney and we are currently working with the Methodist Transplant Institute to get her on the transplant list. Fortunately she has had offers from friends to see if they are a match for a living donor transplant and we are very grateful for that and hope to find a match. You can read Tammys full story here - patients.transplants.org/tammyjohnson As you can imagine this has been very hard on our family. We have a good support system but we will not be able to do all of this alone. Some of you have asked for ways to help so here is a list of things that can be done now with more to come in the upcoming weeks - • There are a lot of expenses that go along with a kidney transplant including life-long daily medications and continued doctor visits. To help with out-of-pocket expenses not covered by insurance we have set up a fund in honor of Tammy with the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) where all tax-deductible donations will be set aside to cover any kidney related expenses not covered by insurance. You can make donations here - patients.transplants.org/tammyjohnson • Some have asked about bringing food. This is very helpful but Tammy is currently on a strict renal/dialysis diet. So for any foodies whose thing is cooking, any food prepared to fit within that diet is welcome. If you have questions about that, feel free to contact me. Also, here are some online sources where we have found recipes and information - davita/recipes/, ultracare-dialysis/RecipeCenter.aspx, https://kidney.org/patients/kidneykitchen/recipes.cfm • With NFT, we will also be working with them to organize volunteers to help in others ways in the future and for fundraising opportunities. If you would like to be added to the volunteer list or receive additional communication about Tammys progress, please email Heather Couvillion, hvcouvillion@gmail. I am sure there will be more opportunities to help in the future and we are very grateful to those who have helped so far and for anyone who helps in the future. And please forward this through email and share on social media with as many people as you think might be interested. Thanks, Roc
