From The Office of the President and Chancellor: Dear - TopicsExpress

From The Office of the President and Chancellor: Dear Members of the DLSU Community, By this time, you may have heard of the news from the ongoing 45th General Chapter in Rome. The General Chapter is the highest policymaking body of the Brothers. The delegates of the Chapter try to discern the future directions of the Lasallian Mission that are in 80 plus countries. One of the Chapters roles is to elect the leadership team: the Superior General, the Vicar General, and the five General Councillors representing Pacific Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and North America. The General Chapter has elected me to be part of the leadership team as General Councillor for the Pacific Asia Regional Conference (PARC) for a period of seven years. This news may come as a surprise and shock to you as well as to me. On the other hand, the God of surprises never seems to fail to amaze us with His love and blessings that leave us forever grateful. This new assignment and ministry requires me to let go of my current position and ministry in DLSU. I do have mixed emotions on this but an administrator reminded me, If this is the will of God, then its good for the Brothers, the Chapter, DLSU, and yourself. Having said that, I will continue to be in DLSU until the third week of August. The new Superior General, Br. Bob Schieler, has asked the leadership team to be in Rome by the last week of August. Meanwhile, I will meet with Br. JJ Jimenez, Sector Leader of the Philippines and Mr. Jose T. Pardo, Chair of the DLSU Board of Trustees, to discuss the transition and how to move forward. I will also meet with the DLSU leadership team regularly to ensure that University operations will continue to respond to the varied requirements of being a Lasallian University. Let me thank you, dear members of our Lasallian community, for your warm support and collective efforts in pursuing our Lasallian Vision-Mission-Values during my time as DLSU President and Chancellor. Our Founder, St. John Baptist de La Salle, often pondered how God’s will had taken him to new routes. I, together with the Brothers in the General Chapter, today face the same call to exhibit humble obedience and to respond courageously to the challenges of making Lasallian education truly transformative, empowering, and accessible to all. In faith, service, and communion in mission, I embark on my new role, guided by what our Founder urged us to do: “Look at everything with the eyes of faith, do nothing but in view of God, and attribute all things to him.” Live Jesus in our hearts. Forever. I remain your brother, Br. Ricky P. Laguda FSC
