Fun facts about our Dees lineage over the past 500 years: Dez was our original name, a variation of earlier Spanish roots (as in Hernandez, Fernandez. Translated: Day Our family originally came from the Sedan region of France. Religious persecution in the 16th century eventually drove the Hugenots (and our family) out of France into the Netherlands where we had our name changed to Dees, early in the 1700s . Our Spanish connection is through our sixth ancestor, Peter Dees who married a lady of noble descent, Catharina Cornelia Alvarez, seventh descendant of the infamous Catholic Duke of Alba, Fernando Alvarez - military general and right hand man of King Phillip of Spain, who was also appointed Governor of the Netherlands (Goes, Utrecht and elsewhere) . His major victories was conquering the Muslims, the French, the Italians and the Portugese. A minor Protestant irritant named William of Orange joined with the English Sea Beggars to win independence and found the country called Holland.
