Fund Raiser Set For Decanter Friends and family of Tommy Decanter are holding a fundraiser to benefit the injured county deputy. Tommy Decanter worked as Carroll County’s animal control officer until he was attacked by a dog in June. He has undergone surgeries and is expected to have a long recovery. Officer Decanter received a call near the six-mile marker on Terry Road about a dog that had been hit. He responded to the scene and was walking near his patrol vehicle when the dog attacked. Sheriff Andy Dickson said Decanter was knocked to the ground by the mixed-breed dog. He was bitten and suffered puncture wounds and damage to ligaments and tendons in his right arm. Sheriff Dickson said he was home when Decanter phoned him. Dickson said he radioed for other deputies to respond along with an ambulance. The other deputies attempted to kill the dog, however, it escaped. Decanter was transported to Jackson-Madison County Hospital for treatment and surgery. The fundraiser is Saturday, September 6, 4:30 p.m. at the Huntingdon Elks Lodge, 150 Elks Lodge Lane. Food will start being served at 4:30 p.m. BBQ sandwich plates with beans and chips are just $6.50 each. The Doug Bartholomew band will play at 8:30 p.m. The cover charge is $5. All proceeds go to Officer Decanter. Items are needed for a silent auction to be held 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Anything anyone wishes to donate, including baked goods, is greatly appreciated. Please let Bart Smith know what is being donated.
