Melissa Cody, Steve LaRance and Linda Lomahaftewa, IAIA alumni, will be the first Native American artists to participate at this event during October. They will be displaying and selling their art at The West Lake International Expo on Traditional Craftsmanship, which is co-sponsored by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and China National Center for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage, October 17th – 20th in Hangzhou. Melissa Cody is a native Navajo and a successful contemporary weaver who specializes in the Germantown Revival style of weaving. Steve LaRance is an established Hope-Assiboine jeweler and designer. Both artists will be displaying and selling their arts at the event. Linda Lomahaftewa is a professor of Studio Arts (painting) at IAIA, who will be sharing her knowledge with the art students in China. Kevin Zheng, owner of Asian restaurant in Santa Fe, will be the coordinator of this trip. Domestic cost for the artists will be covered by the Chinese organizing committee; we are asking your help to cover part of our artists‘ airfare.
