GAZA LATEST: Hamas fires MORE rockets into Israel as shock video reveals HOW they do it HAMAS fired a huge barrage of rockets into Israel from Gaza today, breaking the fragile 72-hour ceasefire. By: Sarah Ann Harris Fri, August 8, 2014 The ceasefire in Gaza has ended after Hamas reportedly fired 21 rockets towards Israel [REUTERS & EPA & AFP & GETTY] The truce expired at 8am local time this morning and just moments later 21 rockets were fired into the southern part of the country, Israel said. Most missiles landed in open fields but two were intercepted over the coastal city of Ashkelon. By Midday, 33 rockets had been fired. Twenty-six landed in Israel, three were intercepted and four fell short in Gaza, the army said. It came as shocking video footage emerged of suspected Hamas terrorists building a rocket silo in a densely populated area of the Gaza Strip - and then using it to fire a rocket across the border. Indian TV channel NDTV obtained the disturbing film, which clearly shows three men erecting a blue canopy on an open patch of land, surrounded by houses, flats and hotels. An hour later they emerged, having laid wires. The following day there is an explosion and huge cloud of smoke as the rocket is clearly fired from the hastily-built silo. The renewed rocket attacks by terrorists at Israel are unacceptable, intolerable and shortsighted Israeli military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Lerner Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev blamed Gaza militants for breaking the latest ceasefire. He said: The ceasefire is over. They did that. He later added: When Hamas broke the cease-fire, when Hamas launched rockets and mortar shells at Israel, they broke the premise of the talks. There will not be negotiations under fire. The truce looked doomed last night after Hamas declared: our fingers are on the trigger and our rockets are trained at Tel Aviv. This morning after the rocket attacks, the Israeli military said that it responded with strikes on terror sites across the Gaza Strip. Israeli missiles killed a 10-year-old boy and wounded five children near a Gaza City mosque, Gaza health official Ashraf al-Kidra said. Two Israelis were wounded by rocket fire, police said. Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Lerner, an Israeli military spokesman, said in a statement: The renewed rocket attacks by terrorists at Israel are unacceptable, intolerable and shortsighted. Hamas bad decision to breach the ceasefire will be pursued by the IDF (Israel Defence Forces), we will continue to strike Hamas, its infrastructure, its operatives and restore security for the State of Israel. Gaza police said an Israeli airstrike hit in the area of a housing project in northern Gaza and that there were reports of casualties. Another strike hit a farm south of Gaza City. Police also reported fire from Israeli tanks on northern Gaza and from Israeli gunboats at the central area of the territory. Israel had earlier said it was ready to agree to an extension as Egyptian go-betweens pursued talks with Israeli and Palestinian delegates in Cairo on ending the war that has devastated the Hamas-controlled enclave. A Hamas spokesman said Palestinian factions had not agreed to extend the truce, but would continue negotiations in Cairo. Hamas wants Israel to open Gazas borders, following a seven-year closure also enforced by Egypt, but Israel says it will only do so if the Islamic militants disarm or are prevented from re-arming. Hamas has insisted it will never give up its arms. The most recent conflict, which has lasted a month, has claimed nearly 2,000 lives. More than 1,800 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and 67 Israelis, including three civilians, lost their lives in the fighting. British aid agencies yesterday launched an emergency appeal to help those affected by the fighting. The chief executive of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) said: After four weeks of terrible fighting Gaza is on the edge. Over half a million people have been forced from their homes, and one and a half million have no or very limited access to water or sanitation. Many people are living in terribly overcrowded UN shelters, but they still need food and basic household items which we take for granted. Many are in urgent need of medical care, but hospital supplies are almost finished. Egypt had earlier in the day called for a resumption of the truce between Israel and Palestine and claimed only a few points need to be agreed on. However, later Egyptian mediators said there was no sign of any imminent deal. An Israeli government official said Israel would not negotiate with Palestinians while militants continued to unleash missiles. youtu.be/A_fP6mlNSK8
