GET ON UP: a biopic about the Godfather of Soul chronicling his rise to fame. Im a sucker for great biopics but this flick really fires on all cylinders. Chadwick Boseman embodies James Brown phenomenally ! u literally believe hes james brown; the moves, the groove and the way he speaks. He nails it 100%. i wont be surprised if he gets an oscar nomination for this role as he is simply electrifying ! The film is told in a non chronological order and jumps from one point of time to another, a refreshing spin from the usual standard run of the mill biopics weve had in the past. I loved how James breaks the fourth wall by talking to the audience, you get an understanding how the man thinks. Theres so much praise to be given to the supporting cast especially the actor that plays Bobby. Although the film doesnt touch on Jamess various domestic abuse issues and drug abuse, it still is a solid biopic all around. Definitely a 8.7 soul stars for the godfather of soul ! DEFINITELY A MUST SEE.
