GOD PRESENT IN ALL THINGS Father Pierre Teilhard de Chardin - TopicsExpress

GOD PRESENT IN ALL THINGS Father Pierre Teilhard de Chardin continued to write about his pantheistic view of Christianity, a feeling of the presence of God in all things. His mysticism was not of an abstract or ethereal nature, separated from matter; it was infused with matter, fire and energy. His spirituality did not call for a rejection or erosion of matter so that the spiritual can be revealed, it is matter carried beyond itself – it is super-material. He saw the earth as sentient; a thinking entity. He named it the Noosphere. The mass of organic matter is the biosphere, beneath that is the non-living geosphere and surrounding it all is the thinking layer the Noosphere; a sphere of the spirit and mind. Here in this bubble humankind connects, contributes and loves. In his writings he extended the idea of God. He believed passionately that, “The world must have a God; but our concept of God must be extended as the dimensions of our world are extended.” This did not comport well with the Vatican’s static worldview circa 1918, and Roman eyes were on him. “In very truth, it is God, and God alone, whose Spirit stirs up the whole mass of the universe in ferment….The fact is that Creation has never stopped. The creative act is one continual gesture, drawn out over the totality of time. It is still going on.” The world is filled with the Absolute; to see this is to make you free.
