GPs FAILING TO SPOT CANCER - Latest figures show one in 10 cancer sufferers have to see their GP at least five times before being referred to hospital to be diagnosed and every year, 80,000 people (which is a quarter of all new cancer cases) are diagnosed in A&E - reportedly because GPs are misdiagnosing the symptoms or failing to spot the early signs of cancer. In a bid to bring Britain in line with other European countries, Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, is planning to launch new government reforms which will see surgeries across the country ranked on how quickly they refer patients who show signs of cancer, naming and shaming the practices who perform badly.
