GREAT [race] MARKETING I have to give it to Lucas and J.J. - TopicsExpress

GREAT [race] MARKETING I have to give it to Lucas and J.J. Abrams. Using the Black guy as the part of the opening scene in this trailer was awesome---awesome marketing, that is. And I really do mean it. The other part of this marketing plan came from the media itself. I watched that not even hours after the trailer went live there were articles that combed the galaxy to find anyone on Twitter complaining about this Black stormtrooper. Seriously. Do a search on Twitter. How many racist comments do you actually see about #blackstormtrooper? Now count how many people are supposedly defending it -- MANY. They are merely defending something that quite frankly doesnt exist. Lucas/Abrams and the media created a ghost and they want you to chase it....at least until the next trailer. The only people that have any kind of problem with it are die hard fans who know that the stormtroopers in Attack of the Clones showed the stormtroopers (clones) being manufactured on Kamino using Jango Fett as the mold or prime clone. And Jango Fett wasnt exactly Black. So yes, Lucas and Abrams will have to explain that one. But my guess is that he isnt a stormtrooper at all. Just like Luke and Han were not stormtroopers, but they did dress like em in order to escape. And this brutha was clearly running from something. LOL! Lucas and Abrams simply placed a sure bet on reaction on this trailer. Reaction that would keep people talking for months. And yes, they used race to do it. And both the media and the race defenders of the universe came through. This isnt Lucas first time using race to help market his stuff. When some of the preliminary reviews of Red Tails showed that this film wasnt going to exactly be one of his usual blockbusters, he immediately started mentioning in interviews his sob story about how White film executives in Hollywood made it hard for him to get this film out. Thats all most Black folks needed to hear as Black Twitter and Facebook feeds were filled with the usual rallying cry to support his film and show those mean White folks that we love Mister Lucass Black film. We (Black folks) did so much marketing for this film that it became one of those things you just HAD to do if you were to retain your Blackness (and dont even dare act like you dont remember any of that). The film was released and as predicted by REAL film critics, the film bombed at the box office. The Star Wars franchise has a long history of great marketing. With this trailer, they continue not to disappoint.
