GUYANA: An Analysis - The New $5,000.00 Bill, and the Anti-Money Laundering Bill. Several things come to mind when viewing the governments decision to introduce a never-before-issued, $5000 bill into circulation in Guyana. - First, and foremost...is this new bill REALLY NEEDED? - Second, is the current $1000 bill sufficient as a large denomination bill? - Next, is the fact that although the government bemoans the lack of passage of the Anti-Money Laundering Bill, it is common public opinion that they are not so much interested in having it passed. On the other hand, if it passes, it should have countless loopholes like a strainer. This new $5000 bill actually could conceivably make money laundering even easier for the crooks in Guyana, allowing them to less paper to carry around to the laundromat! Now, let us examine what I consider, the absolutely awful design, and color scheme! Who the hell chose that? Who was consulted and approved of this hideous piece of art?” Sure, the Guyana Dollar is not worth the paper it is printer on, but gosh man...at least let it be pretty to look at. Unimaginative is the word that comes to mind and best describes this new note. Finally, let us examine the effects of this new $5000 note, on the economy, and on the VALUE of the Guyana Dollar! Word on the street is that it will cause the dollar to DEVALUE even further, eroding what little worth it currently has. Any economists reading this can clarify, and elaborate for us. Should this big denomination bill serve to devalue the currency, what does this mean for the average man in the street? What will that do to property values, prices of commodities, and the resultant inflation that is sure to increase? Sound off below!
